Enforcement action on the rise in Three Rivers

Posted by news desk in Local News, 2nd May 2008, 12:30pm

Enforcement action by the Three Rivers District Council’s planning department, which covers areas such as Rickmansworth (pictured), Chorleywood, Abbots Langley, South Oxhey and Croxley Green has increased for the second year in a row.

While complaints to Three Rivers District Council have fallen slightly over the past two years the amount of formal enforcement action has actually risen from 45 in 2006/7 to 53 in 2007/8.
Planning experts had taken 37 enforcement actions in the previous year (2005/6).

Martin Trevett, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “Complaints have actually fallen since 2005 so the rise in action is all the more striking. Where a serious breach of planning permission has happened, and the person responsible will not comply, we can serve legal notices for enforcement, planning contravention or breach of the conditions attached to planning permission. We will serve an injunction and prosecute if necessary.”

Before carrying out development of any type residents should always contact the council for advice on 01923 776611.
