Viceroy Brasserie in Abbots Langley High Street has raised £1,000 for the villagers of Lohori, a village in Bangladesh, where the average wage is £1.50 per day.

The owner, who grew up in the village, set up a charity to support the locals of Lohori and £1,148 was raised during a charity curry evening last month, where guests enjoyed a meal and a raffle.

The money will be used to install two water pumps, which will serve 1,500 people with fresh water. The village school has had eight ceiling fans installed, new desks and the building has a new roof and has been re-painted through the restaurant's fundraising efforts.

Corrugated iron sheets have also been bought to re-roof houses in the village during monsoon season.

Alaur is hoping to continue raising money for the village, to help with schooling and medical supplies.
