Hertfordshire is on the road to repair

Posted by news desk in Local News, 14th July 2008, 4:02pm

Hertfordshire County Council’s additional £2 million funding, in place to tackle minor defects which cannot always be dealt with by current budgets, will be spent evenly across the county by Hertfordshire Highways on a variety of schemes.

A scheme of works has been outlined and includes: structural maintenance such as patching and surfacing of roads and footpaths, refreshing worn out road markings, replacing faded, worn and damaged signs, cutting back vegetation to expose obscured signs, carrying out drainage repairs in flooding hot spots.

Stuart Pile, county councillor, executive member for highways, transport and rural affairs, said: “The additional funding is targeted at specific areas that residents of Hertfordshire have told us are of concern to them. We are working hard to improve Hertfordshire’s roads within financial constraints – while the county council continues to invest in our highways, the government continues to cut funding.”

This extra programme will be carried out by the end of March, and is on top of a record total investment of £89m this financial year.
