Herts selected to pilot new childcare partnerships
Hertfordshire has been chosen to play a key role in a £10 million drive to test innovative models of partnership and collaboration among early years providers, schools and children's services.
The pilot aims to find creative ways for partnership working between schools, Sure Start children’s centres, early years settings, health services and childcare providers across the 0-7 age range. This should improve how children and families move through services and also raise the standard of provision.
Another key aim is to improve social development, progress and achievement of children involved in the pilots, particularly focusing on the most vulnerable.
The County Council is one of 10 local authorities across the country selected by the Government to pilot the new partnerships, which were first outlined in The Children’s Plan and which were announced last week by Children’s Minister Beverley Hughes.
Sally Orr, head of early years and childcare, said: “We’re absolutely delighted. We were chosen on merit for what we’ve already achieved in early years, working with the maintained sector and our private and voluntary independent providers, and our success in partnership working at a county and district level.
"There have been many changes in the early years sector over the last five years, but service providers in Hertfordshire have risen to the challenge and been willing to adapt. Being chosen to pilot this project reflects the high quality of our services and is a great boost for everyone involved," Ms Orr added.
The pilot authorities were chosen were chosen for having a strong track record in: setting up Sure Start children’s centres, foundation stage achievement and progression through to Key Stage 1, and having already demonstrated their capacity to establish local partnerships and a strong basis from which to develop new approaches
